The design of your RV's kitchen or bathroom is of course secondary to its functionality.
However it's not something that should be disregarded either. One functional design element that also adds to the feel of your RV is the fixtures, in this case the faucets. Whether you are looking to replace or upgrade your current faucets, you may not have time to go over all the different types and styles available. There are different finishes, two handle models, one handle models, pull out faucets; the list goes on and on. This article will give you some helpful tips so you'll be better equipped to make an informed decision.
The type of faucet used
in a kitchen is obviously different than the type used in a bathroom. Kitchen faucets are much larger and some have additional features, such as a pull-out spray head, that aren't typically necessary for bathroom faucets. Depending on the size and features of your motorhome, there are also more specialized models, such as bar faucets. Bar faucets are perfect in tight spaces, or for filling or rinsing glasses. When choosing a faucet, you'll need to be aware of the dimensions of your current fixture, and how the faucet will be mounted. Faucets can require a single, double or triple hole mounting. A faucet that is compatible with the current configuration in your RV will save you a lot of work.
When you are looking at the design and style of a faucet, there are different factors to consider. You may want the finish on your RV kitchen faucet to coordinate with the sink or surrounding appliances. It's not necessary to have to match them, as the faucet can bring in a touch of contrast as well. As an RV kitchen is open to other areas of the coach, you may want to use it to tie in other areas as well. Besides having a straight angled spout, there are also high arching models, ideal for filling or washing pots or large dishes. There are some with the previously mentioned pull-out or pull-down spray handle, to make it easier to direct the water exactly where you want it to go. The style of a bathroom faucet can be chosen in a similar fashion, keeping in mind the style of your sink, as well as the fixtures you've chosen for your shower and lighting.
The types of finishes are almost as varied as the styles available. This can include chrome, brushed nickel, oil rubbed bronze or white. Most of them are easy to take of. The highly reflective surface of chrome can look current or even retro depending on the design of the faucet. Chrome will benefit the most from regular cleanings. Brushed nickel, sometimes called satin nickel, is a common finish that holds up well and isn't too flashy. Oil rubbed bronze is a much darker finish, so it will add high contrast to a bright area, or coordinate well with darker fixtures. White, being a neutral, can easily coordinate with most any décor, especially if you have existing white fixtures or appliances. Nickel, bronze, and white are also good at hiding water spots. What you choose can also depend on your budget, as some finishes are typically more expensive than others.
