Additional Product Information
Upgrade the 30 amp RV end of your existing standard electrical power cord, and plug into a new SmartPlug inlet. It's time for a change from the old antiquated marine style twist lock connections to the amazing SmartPlug 30 Amp Inlet and Connector. Kit includes everything you need to protect your RV from campground power post overheating. Installation of both components is designed to be very easy for the DIY RV'er. Simply replace the connector on the RV end of your existing shore power cordset, as well as the electrical power inlet on your camper with the superior SmartPlug equivalent using the included instructions.
The Inlet cap and flange are made of fire- and weather-resistant thermoplastic and also have dual locking points to ensure the plug is safe and secure. Contrary to popular belief, the number-one cause of shore power failure and fires is not electrical shorting, but rather overheating caused by poor electrical conductivity. These problems are built into the aging designs of common power cord technology. SmartPlug offers a better way. The problem with the Old School NEMA type connectors with curved electrical pins are that they make minimum metal-to-metal contact, causing resistance and overheating. There is also a gap between the body and the inlet allowing the connector to move, putting tension on the pins and clips. It is also difficult to find the "L"-shaped pin to twist and engage the plug, especially at night
The SmartPlug solution to the problem is to use oversize power pins and clips to ensure efficient transfer of power even with high amperage loads. The electrical pins are straight, not curved, with 20-times more electrical surface area and no twisting required. On the plug side a TPE Dyna-flex strain relief ensures weatherproof seal to power cord and the connector body has a sleeve design which fits snugly within the inlet, removing all pressure and tension from pins and clips. It also features a weatherproof seal between the connection. The Inlet cover snaps onto the sides of the inlet and the top of the connector and s unique plug body shape that only goes in one way. Utilizing the industry-standard hole pattern found on Hubbel and Marinco inlet installation is a breeze.
