As it has been stated here previously, not all water hoses are made for drinking water. Depending on the types of materials used in the hose, as well as the intended purpose, the water
coming from it may not be safe for consumption. You have probably heard it said that you should not drink from your garden hose at home. Different chemicals or other substances can be found in garden hoses that can be harmful if ingested. The same principles apply to the fresh water hoses for your motorhome as well. Different types can include those that are safe for drinking, as well as those that are intended strictly for exterior washing or other outside work.
One example of a hose not intended for drinking water is the Phoenix Spray Away Exterior Wash Station. It is able to provide a high pressure spray, making the task of cleaning your RV exterior much easier. Not just for RVs, it can be used for boating or cleaning equipment as well. Having a higher water pressure spray can quickly remove dirt, bugs or other stains the RV may have picked up during travel or while sitting at the campground. Available in white or black, it also comes with a 15' hose.
Installation is not complicated, and only needs a 5-1/2" square hole to mount.
When it comes to drinking water hoses, you may want to consider the outside temperatures. Depending on the type of climate or the time of year, the issue of your water freezing up may be a concern. One way to eliminate that problem is by using a heated water hose. The Valterra heated drinking water hose uses a heat source that regulates on its own, so no thermostat is necessary. For even greater protection, both ends have extra insulation. If a heated hose is not what you need, Apex has a hose made for drinking water that is also guaranteed not to kink. Using NTS Reflex Mesh, any kinks that start get straightened out on their own. Along with other safety compliances, it also contains no lead, so you know that the water coming from the hose is consumable. Besides RV use, it is also recommended for boating and marine applications. Both the Valterra and Apex hoses are available in different lengths.
When choosing a water hose, remember to take into consideration its intended purpose. Keep in mind that water needs to be safe for drinking if it will be used for cooking as well. If the hoses mentioned above do not fit your needs, never fear! They are only a few examples of the fresh water hoses available from RVUpgrades.
