Yes, it would be in the ceiling. I will post a video link below that I found helpful when replacing one of these vents. Towards the end part when he is installing the new vent, you can see where the wires are hanging from the gap in the ceiling.

The lid on Fantastic fans will stop once it hits the vent cover. They have motors that stop once they hit a set amount of resistance. This is how the lid knows to stop when it is closed as well.

We do not have one that comes with a remote, if you want the remote you will need the Fan-Tastic K6600R-417WH Remote Control Vent Upgrade Kit.
