Protecting Your RV from electrical issues The Arcon 30A Surge Protector is designed to safeguard your RV from electrical issues, including low voltage, power surges, and lightning strikes. One of the key features of this surge protector is its ability to detect low voltage. Low voltage can cause damage to electrical appliances by causing unexpected shutdowns or by overcompensating components that could burn out, overheat, or feed back. If the surge protector detects low voltage at a power source, it will alert you, and it’s important to avoid connecting to that source. Instead, you should move to an alternate 30A 120V power source to protect your equipment.
Using extension cords and adapters with your surge protector You can use an extension cord with the Arcon 30A Surge Protector as long as the cord is rated at 30A or higher. Additionally, the surge protector provides protection against lightning strikes, ensuring that your RV’s electrical systems are safeguarded from extreme weather events. If you need to use a power cord adapter, that is also possible, provided the adapter is properly rated and in good condition. However, keep in mind that adapters are meant for temporary use and should not be used as a permanent solution.
Integrating a voltage regulator with the surge protector If you wish to use a voltage regulator with the Arcon 30A Surge Protector, this is also acceptable as long as the regulator is rated at 30A or higher. Be sure to connect the voltage regulator after the surge protector to ensure optimal protection. However, it’s important to note that the Arcon 30A Surge Protector, like all surge protectors, will not last forever. Over time, the components inside the surge protector will degrade as they absorb and suppress voltage spikes. The lifespan of the surge protector depends on the frequency and intensity of surges it encounters.
Understanding the lifespan of your surge protector Typically, surge protectors wear out in a few years or less, especially if exposed to frequent or large surges. Once the indicator lights no longer illuminate, and after confirming this condition with multiple power sources, it's time to replace the device. This indicates that the surge protector has completed its job of protecting your RV and is no longer functional. Regular monitoring and timely replacement are key to ensuring ongoing protection for your electrical system.
